03 Nov Come. Now. Rest.
Do you ever stand amazed that we are “made in the image of God?” Think of it – the God who needs nothing, who is entirely complete and content, without any pain or struggle, chose to act in perfect love. He authored life, and he crowned life with humanity. We are made in the image of Almighty God!
Love was the motive. God created, not out of need, but out of perfect love. From that place of perfect love, humanity has spiraled downward. Relationships have been replaced with rules. Love has been replaced with laws. Welcome to the struggle we now call life. Welcome to the mission of the Son of God, who came to lead us out of the captivity of law, and into the freedom of grace.
God has extended to each of us an invitation. Listen to the words of Jesus: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28-29). Law relies on performance. Love relies on grace. How do we move from the place of inner struggle to the place of perfect peace? Grasp the invitation of Jesus.
Not on the basis of performance. Not on the basis of emotion. Not on the basis of knowledge. Rather, come on the basis of invitation. Are you tired? Weary? Discouraged? God’s invitation is to you, and his invitation is to a relationship. Come now. Come to rest. Come to a relationship with the Son of God every morning. Every moment. Experience his presence, wherein is abundant life.
